Steering Valve for Forklifts - A valve is a device which regulates the flow of a fluid such as slurries, fluidized gases or regular gases, liquids, by closing, partially obstructing or opening particular passageways. Valves are generally pipe fittings but are commonly discussed as a separate category. In instances where an open valve is concerned, fluid flows in a direction from higher to lower pressure.

Most valves being used in everyday activities are plumbing valves, that are utilized in taps for tap water. In nature, veins in the human body act as valves and control the blood flow. Heart valves also regulate the circulation of blood in the chambers of the heart and maintain the correct pumping action.

Furthermore, valves can be operated automatically or by changes in temperature, pressure or flow. These changes could act upon a piston or a diaphragm which in turn activates the valve. Various common examples of this kind of valve are seen on boilers or safety valves fitted to hot water systems.

There are more complicated control systems using valves that need automatic control which is based on external input. For example, regulating flow through a pipe to a changing set point. These situations normally require an actuator. An actuator would stroke the valve depending on its set-up and input, which allows the valve to be places precisely while enabling control over a variety of requirements.
